Rhythmic Breathing

Feb 11, 2023

According to the Bambara people of Mali, the name of Africa's most iconic instrument - the djembe 🪘 - originates from the saying "anke djé, anke bé,” which translates to “everyone gather in peace”

Have you ever noticed how music and rhythm can bring you into a state of calm and peace?

Did you know that breathing in a rhythm calms and energises your body too? 🧘‍♂️

When we breathe in a smooth, constant rhythm we enter a state known to scientists as Heart Coherence. When we are in this state, our body, mind and emotions all enter a state of coherence.

Conventional wisdom suggests that all the heart does is pump blood around the body. Ancient wisdom however and modern science suggests that the heart is far more complex than that, even having its own neurons!

A state of Heart Coherence leads to benefits such as better regulation of energy, sleep, mood and emotions.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) also improves in this state of heart coherence, which has been scientifically proven to reduce anxiety and depression, enhance cognitive function and decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The power of the heart is profound. ❤️

Try slowing down your breath and breathing in a slow, constant rhythm for a few minutes and notice how you feel.

Focus on feelings of gratitude and love 🙏

Remember to breathe in and out of your nose

Peace
